Platinum Sponsor of the Riverdale Raiders Robotics Team Playing in First Robotics Canada Competition

Toronto Suomi Lions Club is committed to helping meet the needs of the local community.

When Byling Truong, a student at the Riverdale Collegiate Institute (http://schoolweb NULL.tdsb NULL.on NULL.ca/riverdale/Home NULL.aspx) in Toronto, came to Lion Charlie with great enthusiasm after becoming a member of the newly founded Riverdale Raiders Robotics Team (http://www NULL.riverdalerobotics NULL.com/) and asked for possible sponsorship for their rookie team in November 2015, Lion Charlie saw it as an opportunity to serve and give back to the local community by Toronto Suomi Lions Club. And everything else then turned into history:

In January 2016 Toronto Suomi Lions Club becomes the Platinum Sponsor of R3P2 Team (http://www NULL.riverdalerobotics NULL.com/sponsor/).

Preparing Used Eye Glasses for Final Donation to Recycle for Sight Project

Repackaging Used Eyeglasses for Lions' Recycle for Sight Project (https://www NULL.flickr NULL.com/photos/torontosuomilions/albums/72157659773963158)

One of the major community service projects of lions clubs is Recycle for Sight program, which is to collect used eye glasses from the community, prepare them for packaging before shipping them to our lions Canadian central locations for final processing prior to sending them out to places all over the world where used eye glasses can be reused for free.

On October 21, 2015, Lion Sisko Ahola, Ilkka Ahola, Charlie Wang from Toronto Suomi Lions Club, Lion Raija Rosenthale and Lion Carol Minnich from Toronto Leaside Centennial Lions Club got together at Toronto Finnish Home. They helped each other, sorted out good eye glasses, put them into separate boxes, and will give them to Lion Jeffrey Friedman, chairperson of recycle for sight project on Saturday October 24, 2015.

All together, 698 pairs of good ones were repackaged and will be donated! Wow!

Been a Lions Club member for 35 years? Lion Esko Ojanpera, a current member of Toronto Suomi Lions Club, was presented a 35-Year Chevron Award from the Lions Clubs International by President Sisko Ahola on May 24, 2015.

Thank you Esko, for your continuous contribution to the community by being a Suomi Lions member, and adding energy and excitement to the club!

The presentation took place at Lion Esko’s farm in eastern Ontario, when a picnic and social get-together was hosted by him, his lovely wife and beautiful daughter, accompanied by his fellow club members. It was a super nice Sunday in the early summer, and a little tour around his farm made its mark into the wonderful memory of every member that was there.
